Polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer that is one of the most widely produced plastics in the world. There are primarily three grades of Polyethylene (PE): High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), and Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE). Various grades of PE are often blended together to produce an article with the appropriate properties. Many manufacturers have asked us to help them determine how much of each PE grade is in a given article. Despite the way the grades are named, i.e., high density and low density, measuring density is not a viable option for determining the composition of PE-based blends. As a result, Intertek has used a series of thermal, mechanical, and spectroscopic methods to aid in answering the blend composition question. This webinar discusses the types of methods used to successfully determine PE variants.
